CAGE-FREE EGGS ARE THE NEW STANDARD

More than 2,200 corporate cage-free egg commitments have been made around the world.

What is a cage-free egg commitment?

A cage-free egg commitment is a formal written statement pledging to eliminate all cage-confinement of egg-laying hens. In addition to not confining egg-laying hens to cages of any kind, cage-free egg operations allow hens to roam the totality of the barn/shed.

  • This includes what are known in the European Union as barn systems, free-range, and organic.

  • This excludes battery cages, enriched cages, colony cages, and combination systems (also known as combi systems).

Beyond the thousands of companies that have made cage-free commitments, nine US states and the European Union have banned cages for egg-laying hens.

A comprehensive list of over 2,200 commitments is available here.
